Who We Are
The Learning Community is at its core people dedicated to providing the parenting resources and school help parents need to lovingly, supportively and successfully raise their children. We are:
Dr. Sarah Stanley
After teaching and working as a principal in the public schools, Sarah obtained her doctorate at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education. She spent the next seven years coordinating evaluation and test-development projects at IOX Assessment Associates (IOX), a Los Angeles-based educational research and development company. Dr. Stanley created and produced a series of nationally syndicated 90-second inserts for local television stations. This series, Education Plus, was designed to help parents help their children succeed in school and in life. To further the support of Education Plus and other similar programs, Sarah established The Learning Community, a non-profit, public-benefit corporation whose mission is to help families and schools work together on behalf of children; and founded the entrepreneurial venture, Ornaments to Remember, with the goal of generating an ongoing revenue stream for The Learning Community.
Melissa Flanagan
After graduating from Portland State University, Melissa launched a copywriting business, MF Clear Copy and especially enjoys projects in the non-profit sphere. Working as the Website Coordinator for The Learning Community has allowed her to provide parents with tools they need to improve the lives of their children—an endeavor she’s passionate about.
Margaret Donnelly
After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Communication at the University of Portland, Margaret worked for five years as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer in the United States Air Force. She left the military to start a family; although the children have not yet arrived she is still the proud nurturer of two cats and a dog. Margaret joined the TLC staff to continue service to her community and to enhance her parenting knowledge base for her future children.
Connie Mills
With two daughters, two grandkids, an associate's degree in business and over 30 years experience working with youth, Connie shares wisdom and a dedication to empowered parenting in between helping customers, maintaining the website, shipping, and being the Jill of all trades at Ornaments To Remember.
